Grilled Cheese Sandwich

There is a very simple way to make grilled cheese. All you need is bread, butter, cheese, and a pan. Some people like certain breads, cheeses, and add fun things such as mustard or bologna inside their sandwiches. I grabbed lunch at a little bakery called SF Boudin in Costa Mesa, California recently. They had on their menu a grilled cheese with Fig jelly and sliced apples. I went home and had to get creative!

Simple grilled cheese for 1 person:

Ingredients:

2 slices of sourdough bread
1 tablespoon of butter
4 slices of medium cheddar cheese, Sargento is a good brand
Cooking spray, optional

Directions:

On medium heat, heat up your best flat skillet over your stove and spray with PAM cooking spray

Butter one side of a slice of bread and lay that side into the skillet

Add the cheese to the top of that slice of bread

As it melts, lay the other bread on top of the cheese with the top of that bread slice having butter on it

Once the slice on the skillet is browned, flip it over until that side is browned

When both sides are browned take it off the skillet and slice it in half. Enjoy with your favorite bowl of tomato soup. Love dipping my grilled cheese into tomato soup or French Onion Soup!

CREATIVE Grilled Cheese with apples:

Ingredients:

2 slices of sourdough bread
1 tablespoon of butter
2 slices of medium cheddar cheese, Sargento is a good brand
2 slices of Jalapeno Munster cheese
4 thin slices of a golden delicious apple
1 teaspoon of Organic Agave Nectar
1 tablespoon of Fig Butter, found at Trader Joe’s
Cooking spray, optional

Directions:

In a small pan add in your apples and the agave nectar. Heat for a minute or two until the apples get a little softer

On medium heat, heat up your best flat skillet over your stove and spray with PAM cooking spray

Butter one side of a slice of bread and lay that side into the skillet and spread some Fig butter on the top of that slice of bread

Add your apples on top of that Fig butter jam

Add the cheeses to the top of that slice of bread over the apples

As it melts, lay the other bread on top of the cheeses with the top of that bread slice having butter on it

Once the slice on the skillet is browned, flip it over until that side is browned

When both sides are browned take it off the skillet and slice it in half.

On medium heat, heat up your best flat skillet over your stove and spray with PAM cooking spray
